This lion monument at the Gebirgsjäger Kaserne in Berchtesgaden-Strub is a memorial to German Mountain Troops in World War II. This memorial is located on a hillside outside the small town of Hilpoltstein, in the Swiss Franconia region of northern Bavaria.
It is part of a war memorial to the Confederate dead (the Confederates lost 4 million dead in today's numbers) and it got me thinking about the power of flags, memorials, monuments, and statues.
